Wednesday, November 11th is Veterans, an important day we set aside each year to honor ALL American veterans, both living and dead. It is a day that we use to thank LIVING veterans for dedicated and loyal service to our great country. Each year on November 11th we show appreciation for our veterans and show them with honors just how deeply we as Americans appreciate the sacrifices they have made to keep our country safe.
HISTORY OF VETERANS DAY
This holiday was originally called Armistice Day and was first issued by President Woodrow Wilson on November 11, 1919, a year following the end of World War I. It was established as a way to honor the fallen soldiers of The Great War. Congress adopted a resolution seven years later to make it an annual legal holiday.
In 1945, World War II veteran Raymond Weeks led a delegation to expand Armistice Day to celebrate all veterans, not just those who died serving in World War I. In 1954, Congress replaced "Armistice Day" with "Veterans Day."
On November 11, 2024, take a moment to express your appreciation to our military veterans. We honor them not only on that day, but every day. Thank you for your service and bravery.
